Why Do People Talk Louder On Phone Calls?
This common behavior has several psychological and physiological roots. Lacking visual cues (facial expressions, body language), our brain compensates by increasing vocal volume to ensure clear communication. The 'auditory feedback loop' means our own voice sounds different or muffled through the phone, leading us to speak louder to hear ourselves better. There's also a psychological tendency to 'project' our voice to a distant, disembodied listener, and to overcome perceived background noise on either end of the call.
